Transforming workflows with the Box MCP server for Slack and Agentforce

We’re excited to announce the launch and general availability of the Box MCP server integration with Slack’s new Slackbot MCP client, alongside our upcoming integration with Salesforce Agentforce.

As organizations rapidly transition to agentic workflows, the most powerful AI experiences combine advanced reasoning with a company’s unique proprietary data. By leveraging MCP (the open standard for AI data sharing) we’re making it simpler for employees and autonomous agents to ground their AI-powered interactions in real files and documents stored in Box, right from where they’re already working.

Staying in the flow with Box and Slackbot

For cross-functional enterprise teams, maintaining flowthroughout the workday is critical. Switching between multiple apps to find project specifications, look up a contract, or check data points can be a major source of friction and distraction.

While our existing AI app in Slack already enables compelling features, before the Slackbot MCP client, any AI or sharing actions were strictly limited to the files you had already shared within a Slack channel. The newly launched Box MCP server within Slackbot removes this boundary entirely.

The Box MCP server acts as a secure bridge, allowing Slackbot to access all your Box content. Slackbot acts as an orchestrator, combining rich context from your Slack conversations with Box data and other connected enterprise applications. Best of all, because it runs natively through Box’s existing permissions and infrastructure, every action is fully governed by the exact access policies your organization already has in place.

“The most effective AI experiences are grounded in the context of an organization’s unique content,” said Jaime Delanghe, EVP and CPO Slack. “The Box and Slackbot MCP connection securely bridges Slack conversations with Box content, bringing relevant files and insights directly into the flow of work and giving Slackbot the context it needs to deliver accurate, personalized results. Together with Box, we’re making it easier for customers to securely access and act on enterprise knowledge without leaving Slack.”

Powering custom agents with Agentforce

In addition to our deep orchestration within Slack, the Box MCP server will soon expand to Salesforce Agentforce, allowing customers to securely connect unstructured content to their AI CRM ecosystem. Instead of managing complex custom APIs or building brittle data pipelines, customers will be able to leverage the Box MCP server to build, customize, and fine-tune their own autonomous Agentforce agents across both Salesforce and Slack.

With this upcoming integration, organizations will be able to easily create and customize their own autonomous Agentforce agents. By assigning granular Box capabilities ranging from intelligent content search and metadata management to document generation and secure file sharing, customers can build tailored agents that understand, reference, and act on your secure enterprise data.

The Box MCP server integration with Agentforce will supplement and expand on what’s available in Box for Agentforce today, which includes 41 pre-built Box agent actions to seamlessly handle core workflow, document, and security metadata tasks natively inside Salesforce and Slack.

Whichever path you choose, you effortlessly ground your autonomous agents in real-time business context, giving them secure access to enterprise knowledge to execute semantic searches, answer complex Q&As, and extract data on the fly.

Putting Box, Slack, and Agentforce to work

These integrations can unlock powerful, actionable use cases for teams across your organization:

  • Sales and customer success: Ask Slackbot to locate a client’s latest contract in Box, extract the key renewal terms, and automatically update a milestone workflow in Agentforce
  • Operations and project management: Direct Slackbot to “create a new project archive folder in Box for Q3 planning,” and have Agentforce automatically pull relevant onboarding data from Salesforce to populate the folder and alert the account team in Slack
  • Legal and compliance: Query complex compliance guidelines stored securely in Box via Slackbot to instantly verify a contract's status, allowing Agentforce to log the approved audit trail automatically without leaving the conversation
