We’re excited to announce the expansion of MCP Apps within the Box MCP server to a broader ecosystem of AI agents, including ChatGPT, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and Glean Assistant, joining our existing support for Anthropic’s Claude.
This rollout transforms AI from a text-based conversationalist into a visual collaborator capable of rendering rich file previews and executing multi-step workflows directly within the world’s leading AI agents.
Solving the text barrier in enterprise AI
Standard AI integrations often struggle with the complexity of unstructured data. Previously, asking an AI agent for a diagram resulted in text descriptions or raw JSON, forcing you to leave your conversation and open Box just to see your own content. This constant context-switching breaks your flow and delays critical decisions.
With the expansion of our MCP Apps, we’ve introduced a visual layer to the AI experience. You now get rich, high-fidelity representations—like thumbnails for slide decks, diagrams, and graphs—directly in your chat. Because the AI agent “sees” exactly what you see, you can query visuals or extract data from charts in real time. This ensures the most relevant information is always front and center, moving you from search to action with unprecedented speed.
Connect enterprise knowledge with ChatGPT
We’re updating the Box app in ChatGPT, bringing the power of MCP Apps and the Box MCP server to ChatGPT to provide you with secure access to your enterprise knowledge, enabling a more responsive and intelligent experience. This update brings the power of Box AI directly into your chat, enabling advanced multi-file analysis and structured data extraction from your most complex content.
Moving beyond simple Q&A, you can now drive end-to-end workflows: upload files back to Box or add collaborators’ comments without leaving ChatGPT. Most importantly, these agentic experiences are built on Box’s gold-standard security, enforcing granular permission controls at every step to ensure that AI-driven productivity never compromises your organization’s strict data governance standards.
As a launch partner for Microsoft's Apps in Copilot, we’re bringing the Box MCP server and its new visual capabilities directly into the Box AI Agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot. This means that soon you’ll be able to search for a file and actually see it, with thumbnails of slide decks, diagrams, and graphs appearing right in the conversation in M365 Copilot.
The Box MCP integration extends across the Microsoft stack, including support for Microsoft Foundry and the Windows on-device registry, allowing your developers to build Azure-hosted agents and enabling you to intelligently query Box content from your local desktop. By meeting you where you work, the Box MCP Server reduces back-and-forth clarifications and significantly speeds up your transition from insight to action.
Empowering unified workflows in Glean
With the general availability of the Box MCP server in Glean Assistant and Agents, you can now seamlessly search and act on Box content while using MCP Apps to view that content alongside your other enterprise data.By leveraging Box as your secure content layer, this integration transforms Glean into a centralized hub, allowing you to synthesize unstructured data—from Box-hosted strategy decks to technical diagrams—alongside the rest of your enterprise stack without the friction of context-switching.
Execute complex workflows in seconds: Summarize a product requirements document (PRD) stored in Box and immediately generate a Jira ticket or GitHub issue for your engineering team. While Box remains your secure single source of truth, Glean’s AI capabilities empower you to execute multi-step tasks across your favorite platforms.
