Today, we announced at Microsoft Ignite that Box is a launch partner for Microsoft Agent 365. This collaboration is designed to address some of the core challenges of enterprise agent adoption — how do you give an agent access to your most sensitive content without compromising compliance? And how do you ensure these agents work together seamlessly within the applications your teams live in every day?
By integrating Box Intelligent Content Management directly into Microsoft’s new, secure agentic framework, these are the core challenges we’re addressing.
Solving the enterprise agent challenge with Agent 365

Agent 365 is the control plane for AI agents, focused on the needs of enterprises. It’s designed from the ground up to address historical AI adoption hurdles by providing a comprehensive management and security plan for all of your organization’s enterprise agents. Built with a deep commitment to security, compliance, and observability, Agent 365's framework allows you to manage AI Agents with the same robust security and governance policies you apply across your organization.
With this integration, enterprise administrators will be able to:
- Unify security and compliance: Manage the Box AI Agent using the exact same tools they use today, like Microsoft Entra, Purview, and Defender. This allows you to enforce consistent security and compliance policies across all users and agents.
- Gain full observability: Get a single pane of glass with real-time observability into all agent activities. This visibility is crucial for proactive security and incident management.
- Standardize identity: The Box AI Agent operates with an Entra-based identity, ensuring that it respects all your existing user permissions and security settings in Box.
The Box AI Agent: Your content, securely connected
While Agent 365 provides the secure framework, the Box AI Agent will bring your most valuable asset—your unstructured enterprise content—into this new agentic world.
To power this, Box will expose a Box AI Agent as part of Agent 365, powered by the Box MCP server, providing the highest level of security and usability. By bringing a Box AI Agent to Agent 365, we will have a secure, repeatable way for agents in Microsoft and other third-party agents to interact with Box, all while respecting your content's security and permissions.
A Box AI Agent in Agent 365 will provide a secure, repeatable way for agents in Microsoft and other third-party agents to interact with Box, all while respecting your content's security and permissions.
This integration enables agent-to-agent collaboration across a variety of organization-wide use cases. Imagine your Box AI Agent seamlessly fetching a signed contract, which then triggers a financial agent to process an invoice, and uses Microsoft tools to send it in email, all orchestrated within the Agent 365 platform.
For users, the experience will be seamless and powerful. You can collaborate with the Box AI Agent directly from the Microsoft applications where you already work—Teams, Outlook, Word, and more —all without IT overhead.
Putting secure, agent-to-agent collaboration to work
This combination unlocks high-value, secure workflows that weren't possible before:
- Sales and legal: A sales manager in Teams can ask an agent to "summarize our last three contracts with Client X." Once implemented, the Agent 365 platform can route the request to the Box AI Agent, which securely finds, analyzes, and summarizes the documents based on the user's permissions.
- Customer support: A support agent in Outlook receives a customer query. An agent can analyze the email, call the Box AI Agent to retrieve relevant knowledge base articles, and draft a response, with all data sharing governed by Purview.
- Finance: An agent built on Agent 365 can monitor a Word document. When the document is finalized, it calls the Box AI Agent to securely store the "final" copy in Box with the correct retention policies applied.
A shared vision for secure, governed AI
This collaboration with Microsoft is a massive step forward, moving us all beyond standalone AI tools and into a new reality: one where your teams can benefit from secure, collaborative, and properly governed AI agents. For Box, this is a key part of our commitment to being at the forefront of new agentic experiences that empower your workers and bring real value to your business.
The Box AI Agent as part of Agent 365 is being announced today at Microsoft Ignite. We are targeting a private preview later this year. We're excited to show you the future of secure, content-intelligent AI.
