Introducing the Box AI Agent for Microsoft 365 Copilot

Last week, at Box’s Content + AI Summit, we announced the new Box AI Agent for Microsoft 365 Copilot. This powerful integration will transform how Microsoft Copilot can interact intelligently with your content in Box, across all surface areas supported by Microsoft, such as Teams, Copilot Chat, Word, and PowerPoint. This integration will empower Box and Microsoft 365 customers to leverage Microsoft Copilot to interact with all their content Box—your single source of truth for your most sensitive information.  Additionally, Box was highlighted as a Model Context Protocol (MCP) ecosystem partner at Microsoft Build, showcasing how developers can enable Box MCP in Visual Studio Code while building advanced AI applications using Box APIs.

Unlock intelligent interactions with the Box AI agent in Copilot

With the Box AI agent integrated into Copilot, customers will be able to easily access their Box content while working in Copilot. With this new capability users will be able to securely use Copilot to search, analyze, and act on Box content, such as:

  • Analyze dense sets of documents to extract key insights and information for better decision making
  • Leverage existing templates to draft new content from a simple prompt for simplified content creation
  • Search and query across multiple documents to identify patterns, insights, and action items for quicker search and trend analysis
  • Ask targeted questions to clearly define milestones for improved project tracking and stakeholder communication.

This new integration means users will no longer need to wonder where content lives; they can simply ask the Box AI Agent in Copilot, and the agent will surface the relevant information from Box.

“Box has been a trusted Microsoft partner for years, and we’re pleased to take our collaboration to the next level with this new Box AI Agent for Microsoft 365 Copilot,” said Dan Stevenson, General Manager, Copilot Ecosystem at Microsoft. “By bringing together Box’s enterprise-grade Intelligent Content Management platform and Microsoft’s AI-powered productivity platform, we’re making it seamless for joint customers to use the power of Copilot with all their content stored in Box, unlocking insights and taking actions across their enterprise tools.”

We recently released the Box MCP server project on GitHub, which works seamlessly with agent mode in Visual Studio Code. This gives developers flexibility to build in the environment of their choice and easily integrate Box APIs with  advanced AI and machine learning capabilities. This capability is available now.

Lastly, we’re thrilled to deepen our partnership with Microsoft, bringing you powerful new ways to work smarter and more securely. By integrating Box AI Agent with Microsoft 365 Copilot and supporting developers through the MCP partner ecosystem, we’re making it easier than ever to unlock the full potential of your content.
