- Dynamic content management: Tools like Copy File, Copy Hub, and Upload File (now supporting Box Notes) allow Claude to organize matter workstreams instantly
- Automated governance: Tools like Add Metadata and Create Metadata Template enable Claude to tag files with key matter data, reducing manual entry and enhancing search to help you easily find the content you are looking for
- Secure collaboration: With Add New Collaborator and Create Shared Link, Claude can manage access for outside counsel and external clients securely and can help quickly validate permissions and access levels on any file.
Box plugin: Teaching Claude how to leverage Box for high-impact legal use cases
We are also introducing three new industry specific skills, that are distributed along with our MCP Server as a part of the Box plugin for Claude Cowork and Claude Code. These skills provide Claude with the instructions to complete complex agentic workflows with Box, addressing the most labor-intensive aspects of legal practice while keeping all data governed within Box:
Virtual data room
Using the Box MCP server, a deal team can prompt Claude to build and manage a secure virtual data room directly within Box. Using Box’s Create Folder, Copy File, Upload Fileand Add Collaboratortools, Claude creates the standard structure, populates it with relevant files, and assigns roles and permissions. This automation reduces "time-to-deal" and ensures zero-leakage environments for sensitive transactions by automating the complex permissioning tasks — like generating Box "upload-only" links for outside counsel — that are often prone to human error.
Client intake and onboarding
Law firms handle massive volumes of incoming documentation during client onboarding. Box acts as the central intake hub where Claude reviews submission folders for completeness and performs preliminary risk assessments. If the intake is successful, Box Doc Gen is automatically triggered to generate an engagement letter, which is then stored and shared via a secure Box folder. This saves significant administrative hours and accelerates the firm’s realization of new revenue by moving clients through the conflict-check phase with unprecedented speed.
Contract review
Reviewing executed agreements for compliance is a constant burden. Claude can scan internal Box folders for new NDAs, identify material variances from firm templates, and write risk ratings (e.g., High/Medium/Low) directly back to Box metadata. This allows firms to gain a real-time, searchable view of their entire contract risk profile without the need for manual, spreadsheet-based tracking or manual data entry into a CLM.
