What GivingTuesday Means at Box

Giving Tuesday

It’s a special year for GivingTuesday, the movement of giving back, it’s the tenth anniversary of the charitable day that is celebrated globally. The idea behind the day is simple: a day that encourages people to do good. At Box, we are committed to doing good through our our three pillars of people, product and philanthropy.

We’re proud that over 75% of Boxers volunteer each year. In addition to ongoing volunteering, this year alone, Boxers have rallied around important causes from hurricane relief, the conflict in Ukraine, refugee support and other emergency response funds, among many others. Over 35 fundraisers were hosted this past year, funded through our Boxers globally.

Each year, Boxers from around the world join forces forces for a day of service in their local communities. We call this Global Impact Day. This year we are thrilled to come together for in-person activities again (and hybrid). International Rescue Committee (IRC), The Nature Conservancy, Project Open Hand and The Noble Package are a few of the organizations partnering with us - from writing letters to refugees, cleaning up parks, coaching, to creating kits for foster youth - there will be an activity for everyone with this year’s theme of “Impact From Anywhere” In addition to all the great volunteering activities, our Box Impact Fund grantees will also be announced on Global Impact Day.

Another way we give back is through our own Boxer skillsets. Our mission is to power how the world works together, and we believe that by making it easy to securely share ideas, businesses are able to connect with customers, governments can better serve citizens, and nonprofits make a greater impact. Nonprofits need to focus on their missions and not on technical challenges. One way we help is streamlining how orgs work through Box Consulting for Good, a pro bono program through Box Consulting. In this program, nonprofits can leverage in-house expertise to advance their missions and scale their impact through the Box Content Cloud. Organizations like The National Association of Counsel for Children and CASA of New York State solved content management processes that improved their security, created automatic workflows and saved hours on grant management.

“With the help of the Box Consulting for Good team, we have created a work of art in Box, the new processes set up will be wildly more efficient and stress free” - Jackie Boissonnault, Executive Director, CASA NYS

This year, we also hosted our first Hackathon for Good made up of customers, all to support The Nature Conservancy (TNC) with their off-boarding HR process. After losing important files, the conservation org realized it was time to revamp their content management processes. The winning team aligned the current HR process of off-boarding employees with an automatic, sophisticated process that will improve how they decide what content is worth keeping. By cleaning up users and creating AI tools with metadata assigned to each file, TNC will now have a streamlined process of handling content and keep up with their licensed user threshold. Giving Tuesday is an annual reminder that organizations making a difference need our support, not just at the end of the year but throughout. Whether it’s packing supplies at your local food bank, cleaning up your neighborhood, coaching a nonprofit, or donating financially - there’s a way you can give back this giving season. At Box, we are thrilled to come together, to focus on “impact from anywhere”, reflect on the past year and look ahead into 2023.
