The secure content layer for AI: The Box MCP server is now GA with Claude and a growing partner ecosystem

In an AI-driven world, the critical challenge for users and enterprises is providing AI agents and tools with the business context they need to be effective and helpful. While agents and LLMs have a growing array of capabilities, their impact for enterprise users is limited without a secure and reliable connection to the content and data that is unique to their businesses. Your business content - your intellectual property, contracts, and proprietary knowledge - should serve as a single source of truth for every AI tool and constantly uploading sensitive files to different AI systems is not just inefficient; it’s a security risk. Today, there is a new way to connect your ecosystem of AI agents to your unstructured content, securely and at scale.

Box is excited to announce the general availability of our remote Box MCP server, a secure content layer for AI that you can now access via the Anthropic’s Claude and a growing set of partners. Built on the emerging Model Context Protocol (MCP) open standard, the Box MCP server acts as a single, standardized bridge, ensuring that any external AI agent must respect your existing Box security and access policies. It provides users and IT leaders the confidence to connect their Al ecosystem to their most valuable content.

Securely connecting agents to your enterprise content

The Box MCP server fundamentally simplifies how third-party AI agents securely interact with your content. With a dedicated, hosted URL (mcp.box.com), our server allows platforms and custom agents with an MCP client to connect and work automatically with your Box content. This eliminates the need for complex, one-off integrations.

This dramatically simplifies and standardizes how various agents connect to and utilize your enterprise knowledge, allowing users and developers to connect their third-party agents to Box and leverage powerful tools for search and AI. This hosted server complements the local MCP server we released earlier this year, which enables connections to desktop applications and systems running in your local environment.

In this general availability release, the Box MCP server enables agents to:

  • Search and retrieve information with Box AI's advanced multi-file query capabilities across your entire enterprise content library
  • Extract key metadata and unlock insights across multiple documents at once
  • Leverage your Box content as context to create new content within an agent like Claude, and then save that new file directly back to Box

Powering agents from leading platforms

The Box MCP server is designed to work seamlessly with the tools your teams already use. We are proud to launch with a robust and growing ecosystem of partners, enabling secure and standardized integration between your Box content and AI agents from platforms including Anthropic’s Claude, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Microsoft Azure API Center, and coming soon for Salesforce Agentforce and GitHub Copilot.

"Our latest integration with Box lets Claude customers securely access their Box content via the Box MCP server," said Dan Rosenthal, Head of GTM Partnerships, Anthropic. "This seamless, standardized connection allows users to instantly search, summarize, and interact with their enterprise content, making complex analysis across multiple documents and files possible in real time, all without leaving Claude."

You can access the Box MCP server via the Claude directory. The directory is available to all Claude users on web and desktop and is accessible here.

Putting your content to work, everywhere

Instead of creating dozens of complex, hard-to-manage custom integrations, users, and developers can leverage this single, standardized bridge to enable critical use cases for any team:

  • For Sales teams: Accelerate deal cycles by using an agent in Salesforce to automatically analyze the latest product roadmaps in Box and generate tailored proposals, ensuring every pitch uses the most current, approved content.
  • For Legal teams: Reduce contract risk by using an agent in Claude to instantly review entire contract portfolios, performing multi-file AI analysis to identify critical terms and turn weeks of manual work into a single query.
  • For R&D teams: Boost developer productivity by securely connecting agents from platforms like Github Copilot to technical documentation in Box, providing context-aware code suggestions without exposing sensitive IP outside of a secure environment.
