We are thrilled to welcome Perry Rotella to Box as Managing Director, Financial Services!  In his new role, Perry will lead the go-to-market strategy and execution for the Financial Services Industry. Here are a few highlights from our conversation:

Can you tell me about your career journey up to joining us at Box?

I have spent my entire career transforming technology across financial services. Most recently, I was at AWS helping customers accelerate their cloud journeys by establishing a sound foundation and achieving desired outcomes using advanced analytics. Prior to that, I was the CIO at Verisk Analytics, the leading data analytics provider for the Insurance industry. Before that, I was the global CIO at Moody’s and global CTO at AIG. I've always worked for information-centric organizations and found my niche helping companies monetize data.

What drew you to Box?

I’ve always loved data and believe that financial services firms have a tremendous opportunity in monetizing all data, especially unstructured content. Analyzing unstructured data reveals valuable insights, enabling businesses to make data-driven decisions, personalize customer experiences, and drive innovation. The Box Content Cloud is uniquely positioned to securely enable value creation by empowering Financial Services organizations to harness its richness, transforming it into actionable knowledge that fuels growth and success in the dynamic digital landscape.

What are you most excited for as you get started in this new role?

I’m excited to learn deeply about our broad offerings so that I can apply the Box value proposition to opportunities and challenges in Financial Services. I'm currently enjoying listening and learning about who we are and how we collaborate to make our customers successful using Box. I really want to engage customers in a dialog about how Box can enable them to achieve their desired outcomes especially how they can leverage Box AI.  I believe that Box AI is a game changer that will unleash innovation in areas that we can’t even think about today.

You’ve been a CIO at several large financial service companies. What do you see as some of the biggest challenges facing CIOs today?

Financial services CIOs face significant challenges, including cybersecurity threats, regulatory compliance, legacy system modernization, and keeping up with evolving customer expectations all in an emerging hybrid work environment.  CIOs also have opportunities in leveraging emerging technologies like AI and blockchain, enhancing digital customer experiences, adopting cloud-based solutions, and utilizing data analytics for personalized offerings. By addressing these challenges and embracing the opportunities, financial services CIOs can drive innovation, improve operational efficiency, and deliver enhanced services in an increasingly digital landscape.

What are your initial thoughts on how Box can bring value to Financial Services?

Box provides several benefits to financial services companies. We offer cloud storage and collaboration features that enable secure sharing of sensitive financial documents. This ensures compliance with industry regulations and data privacy standards. Additionally, our robust content management capabilities streamline document workflows, improving efficiency and productivity. The platform also enables integration for custom applications and client facing portals with Box as the underlying secure content layer. Overall, Box empowers financial services companies to enhance collaboration, data security, and operational effectiveness in a highly regulated industry.

At Box, one of our values is to ‘Make Mom Proud’. What does this mean to you?

‘Make Mom Proud’ resonates deeply with me especially since I lost my mom last year. To me, it signifies the aspiration to live a life that honors and brings pride to her. It represents the desire to make choices, achieve success, and conduct myself in a way that aligns with her values and teachings. It is about doing what’s right under all circumstances and serves as a driving force for positive actions and behaviors that uphold her influence and guidance.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

First and foremost, I love spending time with my two boys. I love being outdoors — whether is it biking, hiking, fishing, or camping. I also love to cook and unwind in the kitchen trying out cuisines from around the world. I recently learned how to skate, and I now play ice hockey several days a week.
