The state of entrepreneurship in the U.S. is strong, and so is the belief that with hard work and the right tools, a small business can be successful. Box is an example of this: we started 10 years ago with 4 employees and funding from the poker winnings of one of our founders, and learned quickly it's not easy to juggle the various demands of starting and running a business.
Today, Box is joining a coalition of technology leaders formed by the Small Business Technology Coalition (SBA) that will provide America’s small businesses a streamlined interface to connect to innovative technology platforms like Box, as well as digital education and enterprise training.
The goal of this coalition is to educate entrepreneurs on the range of resources and technology available to help them connect to customers, scale, and conduct business safely anywhere, and will streamline access to tools ranging from online commerce and payment platforms to efficiency of back-office operations, and content management solutions like Box. Additionally, there will be an ongoing schedule of knowledge-sharing sessions to increase technology awareness on topics of interest to small businesses and entrepreneurs.
The SBA was conceived to support small businesses, to provide them access to counseling, capital and federal contracts, to help them create jobs, and to empower investors to do the same. The SBA guarantee has become the world’s largest extender of small business credit, with a current loan portfolio of $120 billion and under President Obama, SBA-backed small business loans have supported 4 ½ million jobs and record-breaking $91 billion worth of federal contracts. We are excited to join forces with other technology leaders to further the goals of such an effective and impactful organization.
The state of entrepreneurship is strong and adding technology tools and education to the SBA's resource ecosystem will further fuel this growth. As navigating the role of technology to a businesses' success becomes increasingly foundational to a company of any size, the network of assistance available through the Small Business Technology Coalition will be a valuable resource.
