The Box Impact Fund is back: Empowering nonprofits to drive digital transformation

Nonprofits and charities all around the world are making a difference in child welfare, crisis response, and environmental protection — and it’s an honor to partner with and learn from these organizations.

We’re thrilled to share that the Box Impact Fund has returned for its fourth year, offering a grant opportunity for nonprofits making meaningful contributions in those three areas. We’ll award a total of $150K to six deserving organizations pursuing digital transformation projects. Each selected nonprofit will receive a $25K grant to enhance processes or capacity in support of mission-driven work.

We encourage nonprofits and charities across the globe to apply, whether your organization aims to test innovative systems in the field, streamline monitoring and evaluation efforts, or develop groundbreaking apps. And since generative AI has such a profound impact on work today, we’ll be giving special consideration to proposed projects that leverage AI to maximize productivity and streamline work.

Over the last three years, we’ve been excited to fund remarkable organizations focused on a wide spectrum of projects. These organizations’ commitment to pursuing digital transformation in service of their beneficiaries is truly inspiring, and below are the amazing ways last year’s grantees are leveraging Box funding.

Child welfare

  • Foster America, focused on transforming systems that serve children, youth, and families, is working with MIT Media Lab and Affective Computing Group to facilitate co-design sessions to develop technology that supports child wellbeing.
  • Agohozo-Shalom Youth Village, serving orphaned and vulnerable youth, is creating an integrated data management system providing a 360 degree view of a student’s journey for a holistic view of their youth.

Crisis response

  • International Refugee Assistance Project, a global legal aid and advocacy organization for displaced individuals, is focusing on simplifying and expanding access to crucial legal information for those in need.
  • Sesame Workshop, working at the intersection of education, media, and research to help children everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder, is developing an AI coding scheme to extract insights from a play-based assessment.

Environmental protection

  • NatureServe, committed to biodiversity conservation efforts, is enabling over 1,000 scientists across 60 conservation agencies to engage in a two-way data exchange system.
  • Brain Builders Youth Initiative, focused on clean water access and environmental sustainability in Nigeria, is deploying solar powered water ATM kiosks. These provide reliable clean water sources with minimal environmental impact, while alleviating the burden of water related illnesses.

If your organization operates within Box.org's focus areas of child welfare, crisis response, or environmental protection, we hope you’ll apply! The application deadline is December 9, 2024, with grantees announced in February 2025.
