Box and Slack partner to accelerate secure content collaboration
Collaboration is at the core of every business process. That's why we've partnered with Slack to enhance the content collaboration experience across our two platforms. Box and Slack have always shared a common goal of providing organizations around the world with a secure, modern way to work. Today, we're excited to release an all-new Box for Slack integration designed to help teams more effectively manage and access their Box content from within Slack.
With the new Box for Slack integration, organizations can drive more productive teamwork by securely extending their Box content to Slack. End-users can enjoy a variety of features that streamline collaboration and provide the rich context of Box content to their conversations. The new integration makes Box content accessible from within Slack without having to store the files within Slack. This eliminates the need for inefficient context switching, manual work, and content sprawl. End-user features available today include:
- Share from Box: Securely share content from Box in channels and direct messages without leaving conversations
- Rich previews: View file information such as name, author, thumbnail and more when a Box file is shared to Slack
- Instant permissions: Update the collaboration permissions of a Box file directly from within Slack
- Box slash commands: Quickly perform common actions such as searching for files and viewing recent files within Slack
- Box activity stream: Understand how your Box files are being shared in Slack through Box's file activity stream
But we didn't just stop there. We know that as work happens across applications, protecting the flow of data and content becomes more important than ever before. To help you accomplish this, we've added a set of new, granular integration settings available in the Box Admin Console. With these controls, admins will be able to customize the integration to align with their organization's security posture and ensure security settings are as consistent as possible across applications. Admin features available today include:
- Permissions for rich previews: Have the option to display previews for shared content based on Box file permissions
- Slack indexing: Choose whether the contents of shared Box files are indexed and surfaced in Slack's native search
- Slack whitelisting: Set specific Slack workspaces or Enterprise Grid orgs that can be connected with an enterprise Box account
We're excited to work closely with Slack to redefine the way teams collaborate and manage their content. Stay tuned for more updates!
