Box Adds New Offerings to Box for Healthcare Targeted at Hospitals

Today at the HIMSS trade show in Las Vegas, we announced a new solution to transform how healthcare providers work. Tailored specifically for hospitals, this new solution streamlines referral management, enables users to view and share DICOM files (like X-rays, CT Scans and Ultrasounds), reduces the need for manual faxing and scanning, and unlocks data trapped in hospital-based enterprise systems. We also announced that the Box DICOM Viewer is now generally available and has been FDA cleared as a Class II Medical Device, enabling it to be used for diagnostic purposes.

Growing Adoption of Box for Healthcare

Since we launched Box for Healthcare in the fall of 2014, we’ve helped leading hospitals like MD Anderson Cancer Center, St. Joseph Health and Mount Sinai Health System manage and secure critical information, coordinate care, and streamline research. But we have also seen that hospitals still have unique challenges around data sharing.

Even with more than 90% of hospitals across the nation using electronic health records (EHRs) to digitize clinical workflows, providers are still too reliant on faxing, scanning, messengering patient records and burning CDs for the transfer of patient data. This is hard for me to see given my time working at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) crafting legislation for the adoption of EHRs. While EHRs have done a lot to modernized healthcare, we are still working in a hybrid digital and paper-based system keeping data trapped in silos.

Our new Box for Healthcare hospital solution helps providers leverage the cloud to ease the burden of data sharing within the enterprise and across healthcare systems. It provides the following features and services:

• Box Content Management Platform: Box allows hospitals to securely share files in the cloud from any device in real-time. Box is HIPAA-compliant and signs BAAs with customers.
• Box DICOM Viewer: Users can view DICOM images from the web or any mobile device, securely collaborate and share images across facilities, with patients or with referring physicians, and improve turnaround times by enabling remote diagnosis.
• Box Governance: Enables customers to comply with regulatory policies, satisfy eDiscovery requests and effectively manage sensitive information.
• Box Consulting Services: Professional services and domain expertise to help customers transform their clinical workflows with custom integration needs.
• Partner Integration capabilities:
  • HIPAA compliant faxing directly into Box, which enables users to send and manage faxes without printing a single physical document.
  • Secure communication with hospital-based EHRs and PHRs by leveraging the government sponsored Direct messaging protocol;
  • A Continuity of Care Document (CDA/CCD) Viewer to allow structured clinical data from EHRs and PHRs to be easily viewed and shared inside Box.

Partnering with Leading Vendors for Smarter Workflows

We are also showcasing our partnerships with industry leaders at HIMSS to help provide richer workflow and system-based integrations for our customers. For example, to make the sharing of clinical imaging studies even easier, Box is deepening its integration with TigerText, the leading HIPAA compliant messaging solution for hospitals and doctors. Powered by the TigerConnect developer platform, the new integration will allow physicians to receive and collaborate on clinical imaging studies stored in Box from the TigerText mobile interface. Within this interface, physicians will be able to collaborate on X-rays and other images for immediate wet reads or curbside consults.
