Unstructured data makes up the bulk of insurance evidence, yet it remains one of the hardest assets to operationalize. With the new version of Box for Guidewire, AI-powered document intake and data extraction meet core insurance workflows right inside your system of record.
Box for Guidewire is already available in the Guidewire Marketplace across ClaimCenter, PolicyCenter, and BillingCenter. Built by Guidewire with input and support from Box, the new version is designed to reduce the custom work required during implementation and ongoing maintenance. It extends the connection so users can work with Box-managed documents and metadata through the Guidewire UI.
Key takeaways
- The new version of the Box for Guidewire integration allows adjusters and underwriters to access, preview, and manage Box-hosted documents and metadata directly inside the Guidewire user interface
- By configuring Box AI and Box Extract, insurance teams can automatically classify incoming evidence and extract essential data for triage, policy processing, and claims reviews
- External parties like claimants, brokers, and repair shops can securely submit documents through Box intake paths without requiring direct access to Guidewire, while maintaining full governance and compliance controls

Work with Box documents inside Guidewire
Claims adjusters and underwriters work in Guidewire, but many supporting documents arrive through email, portals, and uploads. Teams often read medical records, police reports, estimates, loss runs, and broker submissions, then manually enter the data Guidewire needs. Many insurers rely on custom connections between Guidewire and document repositories, adding implementation and ongoing maintenance work.
With Box for Guidewire, Guidewire remains the system of record for core claims, policy, and billing operations. Box manages the documents tied to those records, including intake, AI-assisted review, approvals, and retention.
With the new version, improvements will include cover folder and user mapping, authentication, embedded content preview, and metadata sync. Users will be able to upload, update, and delete Box-managed documents through the Guidewire UI. Now, an adjuster can open a claim in ClaimCenter and view the supporting documents without switching systems. Metadata tied to those documents will remain connected to the Guidewire workflow.
Use document data in claims and underwriting workflows
When Box AI and Box Extract are configured alongside the integration, insurers can classify incoming documents, extract the data required for each workflow, and prepare it for review and use in Guidewire.
That means during claim intake, teams can pull the information needed for triage and summarize long medical records, police reports, and other evidence. Underwriting teams can apply the capabilities to broker submissions, loss runs, ACORD forms, and inspection reports. Extracted data can be routed to adjusters or underwriters for review, while the source documents remain governed in Box. But adjusters and underwriters remain responsible for claim and risk decisions.
At the same time, insurers can collect documents from claimants, brokers, repair shops, medical providers, and counsel through controlled Box intake paths. Those parties do not need direct Guidewire access. Box classification, access controls, retention, legal holds, and audit history can then be applied based on the carrier's configuration.
Modernizing more than 100 terabytes of insurance content
A leading insurance provider is already using Box alongside Guidewire in a large platform modernization. Working with DataBank, the insurer plans to modernize more than 100 terabytes of content and retire multiple legacy platforms.
Using Box APIs and Box AI, the insurer is modernizing high-volume mailroom and policy-processing workflows connected to Guidewire and other core systems.
