Boxer Spotlight - Ryan Brings His Inquisitive Self to Work
"Bring Your _______ Self to Work" is an important pillar of our Box culture. We're a pretty mixed bag of different backgrounds and values around here, so the blank is different for each Box employee. In this series, we'll interview one of our own to give you a look at our diverse family of Boxers around the world.
Our subject this week is Ryan Ball, an Enterprise Account Executive based in our New York City office. Here's our interview:
Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do at Box.
I joined Box a year and a half ago as an Enterprise Account Executive in New York after starting my sales career with IBM in Boston. I’m a diehard Yankees and NY Giants fan, so being able to join a fast paced company like Box, while also being able to enjoy watching my favorite teams play locally has made the past 18 months truly enjoyable.
How does what you do contribute to the success of Box?
This is one of the biggest changes I’ve seen here at Box compared to my last job. My performance in the field has an actual impact on our quarterly numbers. If I hit 400% of my number in my last job, it would have no impact on the company’s results. At Box, how you perform has a meaningful impact on our financials—that is pretty cool.
What has been your most exciting win at Box?
My most exciting win thus far is with one of the most innovative and fastest growing pharmaceutical companies in the country. We competed against a very large software company that was also the incumbent in the account. A number of executives from Box, including Aaron, helped with this deal. It was great to see how much help you have internally to get these deals done.
Aaron is such a core part of this company, do you have a fun memory to share?
I would have to say the most meaningful memory I have of Aaron is when I first started here at Box, we had the whole East region sales team out to dinner. Aaron ended up showing up mid-way through and took the initiative to introduce himself as I was an unfamiliar face. To have a CEO of a company the size of Box introduce himself to a new sales rep spoke volumes to me about the type of culture we have here.
2017 is a big year for Box, what is your biggest goal for this year?
Making it to Sales Club again is high on my list of priorities. I was able to achieve this in 2016 and want to at least repeat that again this year. My personal goal is double the amount of closed revenue I booked last year, which will be a tough, yet achievable challenge.
