Box Legal Team's Commitment to Pro Bono: Making a Difference in Our Communities

At Box, we believe in the power of giving back and making a positive impact on our communities. This commitment is deeply ingrained in the values of the Box Legal Team, who established a pro bono committee several years ago through which team members actively engage in pro bono and other volunteer activities. Our legal team partners with incredible non-profit organizations, dedicating their time and expertise to help clients facing various legal challenges. In the past year alone, our team has supported several non-profit organizations, including:

  • In September 2023, team members Chris Draper, Syeda Madani, Elham Marder and Maninder Sagoo joined forces with the law firm DLA Piper and the non-profit Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area (LCCR) to provide invaluable assistance to underserved small business entrepreneurs on matters related to corporate law, contracts, intellectual property (IP), and employment issues.
  • Continuing their impactful work into December 2023, team members Tiffany Gomez, Greg Johnson and Elham Marder collaborated with DLA Piper and the Los Angeles County Bar Association to support low-income veterans through a criminal record expungement clinic – an initiative aimed at helping these brave individuals rebuild their lives.
  • In February 2024, fifteen members of our legal team partnered with the Immigration Institute of the Bay Area. Their mission was to assist low-income clients in navigating the complex process of U.S. citizenship applications – empowering individuals to achieve their dreams of becoming American citizens.

  • June 2024 marked another significant milestone as team members Duo Chen, Syeda Madani and Maninder Sagoo teamed up with Wilson Sonsini and LCCR for their Small Business Legal Clinic for Black-Owned Businesses. They provided vital consultation services covering contracts, entity formation, IP protection strategies, and employment law guidance – all tailored specifically for black-owned businesses.
  • Since July 2024, Syeda Madani, Elham Marder, and Irina Mellinger have partnered with Wilson Sonsini and the non-profit California Innocence Advocates to review applications for wrongful conviction.
  • In early October 2024, Elham Marder assisted Swords to Plowshares – a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting veterans - with a discharge upgrade clinic focused on discharge upgrade applications support services. This clinic aims to provide greater access to benefits for those who have served our country selflessly.

In addition to the activities above, our Legal Team members also use their personal time, as well as Box’s Volunteer Time Off program (24 hours per year), to pursue individual pro bono initiatives close to their hearts. For example, David Leeb - our Chief Legal Officer - serves on the board of directors at OneJustice, an exceptional legal non-profit organization plays a crucial role in advancing justice and equity for all individuals regardless of financial or social circumstances. And team member Natasha Keswani currently serves on the board of directors of Justice at Last – a remarkable non-profit law firm that supports human trafficking survivors by providing them with essential legal aid.

At the Box Legal Team's core lies an unwavering commitment to contributing to positive changes outside of Box and truly living by our core values of "Make Mom* Proud” and “Be an Owner”. By leveraging their collective skills, talents and resources through pro bono initiatives like those mentioned above, the Box Legal Team strives not only to make a difference but also inspire others within our communities.
