Box to bring AI to your enterprise content with Microsoft 365 Copilot in Teams
We are entering a new era in software, driven by advancements in AI. With it, we are witnessing strong momentum and unlimited potential to enhance our day-to-day working lives through enterprise content. At Box, we are working to assist our customers in navigating the possibilities across the Content Cloud - leveraging AI in Box for creating, querying, and analyzing content while maintaining organizational security. Earlier this year, we announced Box AI: a combination of foundational AI models and content stored in Box that unlocks the value of content and makes every person within a company smarter and more productive. And this is just the beginning.
Today, we are excited to announce a new integration with Microsoft 365 Copilot. This integration will allow our joint customers to utilize the power of Microsoft 365 Copilot to enhance the usefulness and value of their Box files like never before. Additionally, we are also releasing several enhancements to our existing integrations with Microsoft Teams and Microsoft 365. These improvements streamline how users preview, access, edit, and share their Box Content while working in these applications.
Box for Microsoft 365 Copilot

Imagine having an expert at your fingertips who helps, guides, and protects you while removing content search obstacles or repetitive, mundane tasks so that you can do your best work. The Box plugin will make it easy for customers to leverage the Box Content Cloud through interactions with Microsoft 365 Copilot.
Instead of spending time digging to find information in files and folders saved across Microsoft and Box, this new integration will allow users to:
- Quickly synthesize and summarize all their shared Box documents in Teams to draw insights from collaborators.
- Ask questions of shared content to derive information, like major milestones in existing projects.
- Limit the need to scroll through Chats and Channels to get up to speed more quickly on conversations and new learnings.
"At LPL, we are focused on deploying the best of today’s modern tech stack so that our employees have what they need to deliver top-tier results for our clients,” said Kathryn Dundas, VP of Technology at LPL Financial. “Box and Microsoft are both essential parts of this equation, and the enhanced integration between these two platforms allows us to securely and productively collaborate from anywhere. We look forward to the continued interoperability between these two platforms, especially as we see AI become a bigger part of the future of work."
Box for Teams

In addition, we have Box for Teams enhancements that you can access today. Our integration makes it easy for users to find, preview, access, and work with their Box files while collaborating with their colleagues and partners. Our latest updates allow users to:
- Share and edit Box Notes directly in Team’s Chats and Channels, which helps to unify content and reduce fragmentation within an organization.
- Grant instant permissions to automatically synchronize user access to files across Box and Teams, which maintains Box’s industry-leading security posture across their file content.
- Select Box as the default cloud content management solution in the Teams environment for the entire tenant, certain groups or specific users using access policy settings within Teams.

Box for Microsoft 365 desktop co-authoring: Semi-Annual Channel GA

Last year, we introduced Box for Microsoft 365 desktop co-authoring to customers in a phased GA, which is now expanding to those in the Semi-Annual Channel for Microsoft 365 updates. This update provides users with real-time co-authoring capabilities right from the Box web app, and now on desktop. With this enhanced capability, all users have:
- More flexibility to collaborate in real time on files in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel desktop apps — with all edits auto-saved back to Box.
- Increased productivity with access to advanced features across Microsoft 365 desktop apps.
- Ability to preview, access, edit and share files from Box Drive, the Box web app, and the Microsoft 365 Office desktop apps “Add a Place” functionality.
Box already offers a range of integrations with Microsoft to foster frictionless and secure collaboration for our joint customers. We are excited to further extend our collaboration to unleash the immense potential of enterprise content for mutual Box and Microsoft 365 customers through the power of AI.
“We are at an extraordinary moment in the technology landscape, where AI is reshaping industries and transforming how we work," said Srini Raghavan, VP of Product Management for Microsoft Teams Ecosystem. "Through expanded integrations between Microsoft 365 with Box, we are bringing new tools and capabilities to our customers to enhance productivity and collaboration.”
