Boost your impact with the Box Impact Fund: Applications open

Box Impact Fund

Do you know a nonprofit that’s focused on making a difference in crisis response, child welfare, or the environment? We’re excited to tell you about a grant opportunity for organizations working in these areas. Now in its third year, the Box Impact Fund will award a total of $150K to six different nonprofits pursuing digital transformation projects. Each selected organization will receive a $25K grant to put towards expanding their tech capacities — with a goal of empowering teams to focus on their mission-driven work.

Whether your goal is to implement new systems in the field, improve infrastructure projects, increase efficiencies in monitoring and evaluation efforts, or create a game-changing app, we encourage nonprofits around the world to apply.

Last year, we received hundreds of applications from nonprofits in over 40 countries, all working to make a significant impact across their communities. The Box Impact Fund judging team selected six inspiring organizations as our grant recipients:

Child Welfare

Crisis Response

Environment

One of these grantees, ChildFund Mexico used the funds to create a digital app to connect children they serve to their sponsors. The bond between the sponsors and children is much stronger now that the app is more accessible — and response time faster. In the process, the organization has eliminated paper trails, reducing its carbon footprint.

Mobile Pathways helps immigrants gain access to reliable legal information about their numerous pathways to immigration via mobile phone technology. With the Box Impact Fund grant, the organization was able to ensure that critical legal updates were sent via SMS or WhatsApp to immigrants at or near the US southern border, with the majority being asylum seekers. Messages with urgent humanitarian information were translated into Spanish and Haitian Creole for nearly a quarter million people.

Another awarded grantee from last year, HERA Digital Health, supports refugee access to healthcare via an open-source mobile platform. HERA was able to hire two developers (one a refugee himself) to enhance the organization’s chatbot — along with its disaster-area active health center map and its coordination tools for nonprofits working in the field. As a result of the increased tech capacity, HERA has increased its users to over 10,000 and is focused on growing its capacity in Turkey to assist in rebuilding post-earthquake — as well as piloting in new countries.

We want our Box Impact Fund to be an opportunity help you grow as an organization, expand your capacity, and tackle projects you’ve always wanted to launch. If your organization is working in one of Box.org’s three focus areas — child welfare, crisis response, or the environment — don’t miss out on this exciting funding opportunity. We can’t wait to review your application and video, and hear how we can support your digital transformation journey. Please also consider sharing the news with other organizations that could benefit from the Box Impact Fund as well.

More details are available on our website, including eligibility guidelines, application information, and evaluation criteria. The deadline to apply is November 8, 2023, with grantees announced in February 2024. Thank you for the critical work you do every day to make our communities stronger.
