Today there are billions of Microsoft Office files in Box - that's a lot of Microsoft Word documents, Microsoft Excel sheets and Microsoft PowerPoint presentations! Tens of thousands of the businesses that rely on Box for secure collaboration use Office for productivity and document creation, including Schneider Electric, GE, World Bank and AstraZeneca, so it's important we make it as easy as possible to use our products together. In the past two years alone, we've introduced a deep integration with Office Online, added support for real-time co-authoring, built new integrations with Office for iOS and with Microsoft Outlook, and revealed one of the first universal apps for Windows 10.
Today, we're expanding our collaboration with Microsoft even further and are introducing three new features that'll make using Box and Office together even better. For the first time, you can:
Create, Access and Edit Box content in Office for Android
Box can now be selected as a default cloud service for Office on Android, which means you can access all of your Box files from Office on mobile and edit them using Microsoft's native mobile apps. Additionally, when you're in Box's Android app, you can now create a new Office document, edit existing documents where the changes will automatically be saved back to Box, or even assign tasks to collaborators.
Save new files to Box without leaving Office Online
You can now create new Word, PowerPoint, or Excel files from Office.com and save them in Box without ever having to leave the page you're on or visiting the Box web app. This builds on our existing Office integration, which automatically saves all changes made to Office files directly to Box, and lets you create new Office files from the Box web application.
Preview and search Excel files in a better way
There are millions of Excel files in Box. Working on Excel spreadsheets is one of the most common activities in Box. With Microsoft's new Excel previewer technology, you're now able to flip between Excel sheets, search for specific cells, and sort content all from view mode in Box without ever downloading the file or opening Excel. You can expect to see a lot more innovation from our work together over the coming years as we continue to refine our existing integrations and collaborate in exciting new ways on products like Microsoft Teams.
