From script to screen, securing M&E content with AI

Every day I’m inspired by the incredible work happening across the M&E industry—whether it’s a new series that captures the zeitgeist, a song that defines a generation, or a campaign that goes viral overnight. At BoxWorks 2025, we shared how Box is helping creative teams behind the scenes—studios, networks, labels, agencies, and production houses—work faster, safer, and smarter in an environment where culture never sleeps.

The Entertainment world has changed. Deadlines are tighter, files are heavier, and the margin for error has never been thinner. Audiences expect stories, songs, and campaigns that travel seamlessly across borders and platforms. At Box, our mission is simple: give creators the tools to move at the speed of culture, without sacrificing security or creative freedom.

Protecting Creativity’s Crown Jewels

A film script, an unreleased track, a global ad concept—these are the crown jewels of our business. And in today’s landscape, a single leak can mean more than lost revenue; it can mean broken trust with fans and audiences.

That’s why I’m so proud of the announcement we made at BoxWorks: Box Shield Pro. This is more than security—it’s peace of mind. By embedding AI-powered ransomware detection directly into Box Drive, we’re giving our customers real-time protection against the kinds of breaches that can derail entire projects. Add in dynamic watermarking, download restrictions, and fine-grained access controls, and you’ve got the ultimate vault for unreleased content.

As one of our M&E roundtable guests put it:

Box Shield Pro is a game-changer for our industry. It gives us the confidence to innovate with AI while knowing our IP is safeguarded at every step of the workflow.

AI + IP: A Remix with High Stakes

AI is sparking incredible possibilities—reviving old campaigns, reimagining music catalogs, and even accelerating the pre- and post-production process. But with that innovation comes new questions: Who owns the output? How do we protect the creative DNA embedded in past works? How do we stay compliant when creative rights span the globe?

At Box, we believe the answer lies in trust and governance. Our AI agents are grounded only in a company’s own trusted content, paired with strict audit trails and controls. For studios, it means experimenting with storylines and scripts responsibly. For labels, it means remixing with catalog gold without risking rights. For agencies, it means refreshing a campaign for a new audience—confident the client’s IP is always protected.

But the story doesn’t end with creativity. Many of the most powerful applications of AI in Box are design to enhance security, surface insights, unlock unstructured data, enrich metadata, automated file organization, and streamline workflows. These capabilities don’t just benefit production teams—they empower marketing teams to accelerate campaign delivery, licensing teams to manage rights and contracts more efficiently, legal teams to safeguard sensitive IP, and finance teams to keep projects on budget with greater visibility. It’s in these everyday efficiencies that AI is quietly transforming how content is managed at scale—so every team, creative or not, can stay focused on the work that matters most.

Cutting the Friction, Fueling the Flow

Creativity has a rhythm, and nothing disrupts it like waiting on a file transfer, losing track of versions, or chasing down approvals across time zones. Whether it’s a film shot across continents, a brand campaign with regional rollouts, or an album or the latest edition of a game about to drop worldwide—the work doesn’t stop, and neither should the flow of collaboration.

That’s why I’m excited about Box Automate. It’s like having an invisible production coordinator that handles the repetitive but essential tasks: routing contracts, onboarding crew or talent, pushing campaign assets to the right approvers. The result? Creative teams can stay in the groove, focused on storytelling, music-making, and big ideas. And with Intelligent Content Management, Box integrates with over 1,500 of the tools M&E teams already rely on—from production workflows to marketing suites—so content flows naturally across an entire ecosystem. We know it takes many tools to bring a film, show, or campaign to life; Box is the connective tissue that ties them all together.

AI Agents: Creativity’s New Collaborators

The debut of our five new AI Agents felt like unveiling a new creative team member. Ready to deploy instantly, they give artists, producers, and creatives the ability to pull from their own archives and breathe new life into past work. AI Search Agents can surface an old script draft, a forgotten chorus, or a retired campaign slogan—and help reimagine it for today’s market.

With AI Studio, teams can attach treatments, decks, or lyric sheets and generate context-rich outputs that accelerate ideation.

The Road Ahead

What excites me most leaving BoxWorks is the knowledge that creativity is only going to move faster from here. Our job at Box is to make sure the tools keep up—with security that feels invisible, collaboration that feels effortless, and AI that feels like a productivity partner, not a threat.

And while we’ll always support the studios creating the next blockbuster or the agencies running global campaigns, we also recognize the hundreds of smaller production companies powering this industry every day. For them, flexibility and ease of use matter just as much as scale and security. Box is designed to serve both ends of that spectrum—prestige projects and the everyday content that fuels culture. Together, we’re building the infrastructure that helps creators do what they do best: shape culture, tell stories, and move audiences worldwide.
