How Architecture and Design Firm Perkins+Will Creates Digital Experiences with Box Platform

For the past 81 years, Perkins+Will has been focused on crafting the ideal experience for their clients, leveraging the power of design to transform lives and enhance communities. With a portfolio of complex projects running the gamut from healthcare centers and university campuses to science laboratories and museums (and almost everything in between), efficient workflow processes and effective communication are critical. Keeping the firm’s clients actively engaged throughout the design and construction process is also essential—but can sometimes be challenging given the size, complexity, and duration of some projects.

In his keynote address at BoxWorks 2016, Perkins+Will’s CIO Murali Selvaraj, along with Box SVP Platform and Chief Strategy Officer Jeetu Patel, discussed Perkins+Will’s collaboration with Box on a new digital solution to keeping clients actively engaged during the design process.

Perkins+Will embarked on a journey to design the best digital experiences for their clients along with the best buildings. Their goal was to create increased transparency and drive more open communication with the project team. The firm recently adopted Box to store project files. Using Box Platform, they designed a custom mobile app—called Blueprint—that can access and display project files stored in Box while leveraging Box’s collaboration features.

With Blueprint, Perkins+Will clients and other stakeholders will be able to check the status of their project, view images of the work in progress, and access important documents. Collaboration features enable clients to comment on documents and contact team members directly. Blueprint also allows clients to upload their own images and ideas, which triggers a notification to a project team member to respond.

Box Platform APIs enabled Perkins+Will and their development partner, Cognizant, to craft a simple, highly-engaging experience in only four weeks. With this as a foundation, they will continue to make improvements to ensure a seamless, simple, enjoyable, and interactive experience for their clients. For example, eventually, the firm plans to add new immersive technologies, such as 3D video, HD video, and virtual reality.

For Perkins+Will, crafting the ideal client experience extends to the virtual world as well as the physical world.
