The need to securely share your files quickly and easily while knowing what’s going on with your business is extremely important. That’s why we’re excited to announce the updated Box for DocuSign integration today. Now when you’re working within DocuSign, you can select documents from Box you want to sign or send for signature and prepare it in just a few clicks. Completed documents automatically save back to Box and can be accessed from anywhere, on any device.

With today’s update to Box for DocuSign, you have the flexibility to start from whatever application you’re in: Box, DocuSign, or from your iPhone, Android or other mobile device. No matter where you start, with a few clicks you can easily select the recipients you need to sign a document, tag the document, and send it for signature. Once the document is fully executed, a copy is automatically stored in Box so you always have the most up to date version at your fingertips.

Box for DocuSign is a popular integration here at Box and is used throughout the company. When we sign up a new customer, our sales rep will send the contract to be signed in DocuSign. The customer returns the signed contract and it’s automatically saved back to Box. Our business development team uses Box for DocuSign to red-line or edit contract drafts, and then collect signatures on executed copies. Even our people ops team uses Box for DocuSign to extend offer letters to candidates, as well as prepare internal stock grants for employees to sign and return.

With Box for DocuSign, your team can be more productive regardless of where you are or what device you’re using. How will your team use Box for DocuSign?

What are the odds of a lost mobile device affecting your organization? Pretty good, according to a recent BYOD survey conducted by MobileIron. 55 percent of the companies surveyed reported some form of security issue in the past year, mostly in conjunction with lost or stolen phones. With figures like this, it’s no surprise that as BYOD programs expand, so has the interest in BYOD security.

Protect Yourself: Box for MobileIron AppConnect

Box is designed with mobility, control and content security in mind, and many of our customers choose Box to help them tackle tough industry regulations and compliance policies. This is why Box has partnered with MobileIron to offer the security, visibility, configuration and policy management that IT needs and the convenience and productivity that users expect.

Today we’re excited to launch a brand new mobile app, Box for MobileIron AppConnect, that’s designed to work with the new MobileIron AppConnect mobile application security solution. It offers a seamless way for companies to secure mobile apps on a device while keeping a user’s corporate and personal data separate. For businesses that need enhanced security controls, MobileIron AppConnect also offers DLP features and lets admins set additional authentication policies in order to access and install corporate-sanctioned apps.

With our integration, IT can control the flow of content out of Box, as well as easily restrict printing, opening files in other apps and copying and pasting sensitive data. Additionally, MobileIron and Box customers can:

Automate app installation

Invisibly manage policy changes across an enterprise

Provide SSO to enterprise applications on the mobile device

Keep sensitive information off compromised or jail-broken devices

Today, I’m thrilled to announce that Box has received our formal certification for the ISO 27001 Information Security Management Systems standard. This certification demonstrates our commitment not only to the security and control of our customers’ data, but also our commitment to our global customer base. We started down this path last year and our compliance efforts are gaining steam – we received our SOC-1/SSAE16 Type II, SOC-2 Type II report and announced our support for HIPAA compliance in just the past quarter.

If you’re unfamiliar with ISO 27001, it’s the international standard for information security management systems (ISMS) and demonstrates how the policies and controls we have put in place at Box protect user data. In short, the standard prescribes requirements and best practices for systematically building, deploying, verifying and managing information, content and data.

While this is an important certification for Box, it’s just one more step along our long-term roadmap and commitment to providing the highest level of transparency and assurance to our customers about the quality and security of our platform, top to bottom.

It’s also a critical component of our ability to serve our international customers in Europe, the Middle East and Asia – where we’ve seen our customer growth more than double in the past year. And, if you’re in Paris or Munich next month, our Box World Tour stops in those cities are great opportunities to learn about how Box gives you better security, control and visibility over your content. For more information, or to register, check the sites for Box World Tour: Paris (4 June 2013) and Box World Tour: Munich (12 June 2013)!

Guest post by Nitin Gupta, Director, Industry Marketing – Professional Services, Box

Over the last decade as a lawyer, entrepreneur, and technologist, I’ve witnessed first hand the way mobile and cloud technologies have changed the way lawyers work and communicate with clients. It had to happen. Clients were demanding more immediate responses and access to information, and lawyers were increasingly frustrated by the lack of flexibility, speed and usability of existing corporate email and antiquated extranet technologies.

I personally witnessed the power of Box when LawPivot, the company I founded, was acquired. Mergers and acquisitions are always challenging, both from an emotional and organizational standpoint. During the acquisition, we were asked by the acquiring company to produce virtually all of our documents including, incorporation documents, patents, employee agreements, financial statements, board minutes, etc. There were literally thousands of pages of documentation.

Initially, we had planned to send these sensitive documents via email, as we had done in the past for other VC diligence activities. This would have required sending four separate emails (with as many as 10 documents attached to each email), and then a confirmation with the VC that they had in fact received our documents. However, for our acquisition, we decided to try Box. It was effortless to share documents with the acquiring company. The team was automatically notified when each document was viewed. At one point we had four parties involved (my company, our lawyers, the acquiring company, and its lawyers) sharing highly confidential documents with one another. We were able to see which documents were viewed and also collaborate by adding comments to documents and clarifying any questions along the way. We also used Box on our mobile devices to ensure we were responsive and completely aligned at all times. It was an incredibly seamless process.

There is a huge opportunity to eliminate wasted time, paper and effort on communications for lawyers using Box. Both our law firm and the acquiring company’s firm were able to better serve and collaborate with us in a way that was completely frictionless. When I spoke with my lawyers after the acquisition, they were pleased that Box allowed them to spend more time providing legal guidance rather than wasting time finding and figuring out the right versions of the documents everyone was talking about.

More and more lawyers are realizing the efficiencies and advantages that technologies like Box bring to the table. Law firm leaders are tired of the poor user experience and functionality of outdated software they currently use, and are ready to explore user friendly technologies that fit in today’s “Post-PC” workplace. I believe Box’s user experience and simplicity will be the perfect solution for these law firms. In fact, Box recently announced a major uptick in adoption from the legal services industry with customers like Perkins Coie and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati joining its customer roster. Most importantly, Box has nailed it from a security standpoint (which is extremely important to law firms), as it is HIPAA, HITECH, and SSAE II 16 compliant.

The use of Box during an acquisition is one of many common use cases for law firms and legal departments of all sizes. Lawyers use Box in a variety of ways including, high profile litigations and handling large intellectual property portfolios. Also, through mobile productivity apps that integrate with Box, attorneys are accessing and editing legal documents when they are on the go, and collaborating with other lawyers at their firms, co-counsel, and clients. It is always great connecting with lawyers using Box and learning new ways they are benefitting from the service. I am excited to help lead Box’s expansion into the legal industry. I also look forward to connecting with other legal partners and providing law firms of all sizes a great platform to access, manage, and share their documents securely and easily.

As more people—and more businesses—choose Windows phones and tablets, we continue to invest in our Box for Windows apps to give users more access to content and businesses more control and security.

In fact, interest in Microsoft’s latest platforms has led to more than half a million downloads of our Box for Windows 8 and Box for Windows Phone apps since launch. We have met this demand by recently releasing some amazing features that let you do more with Box on your Windows devices. And today, we’re adding even more features to give users and businesses better control and enhanced security over their content.

Let’s take a look at what you can do on your Windows Phones and Windows 8 PCs now.

Box for Windows already gives you easy access to your content, with the ability to preview over 75 types of documents—including complex ones like Photoshop or AutoCAD files! It’s also designed around the unique features of the Windows platform, making use of live tiles, semantic zoom, and charms on Windows 8.

Today’s updates will also give you more control over the content in your account. Now, you can add, remove, and change access permissions for any collaborator in any folder that you own. This is great if you’re away from your desk and need to quickly change how someone sees your content or if you want to share something that you just uploaded from your phone.

We’re also extending some of our enterprise security and device management features to these Windows devices. First, we’ve added two-step login verification, which users or admins can enable to keep accounts safe. With this feature, a one-time code is sent to the user’s mobile phone, which they will use in addition to their password to login to Box.

Next, admins can tailor Box access to their specific IT policies. For example, you can require an application-specific passcode lock and set a custom timeout for the lock. To prevent data leaks, admins can also restrict the ability to download files locally to the devices. All of these new features are in addition to the device pinning and remote logout capabilities we already offer.

Finally, we’re offering more access today for the Swedes and Finns, with two new localizations in Swedish and Finnish!

Go download the free Box for Windows 8 or Windows Phone app today— and try out the security settings for yourself! We’re always open to your feedback @BoxHQ or via windows-support@box.com.

I’m incredibly excited to share that we’re acquiring Crocodoc, bringing its amazing team and technology to Box.

Whether or not you’re familiar with Crocodoc, it has undoubtedly powered many of your online interactions with documents. I first met the company’s founder, Ryan Damico, a few years ago as Crocodoc was emerging as an unstoppable service with a truly audacious goal: to reimagine documents in the cloud. Today, Crocodoc provides the absolute best way to render and view documents on the web. Its leading HTML5 technology powers online content experiences for more than 100 services and has made hundreds of millions of document previews seamless and beautiful for users.

Viewing a document on Yammer? That’s Crocodoc. Looking at a resume in Linkedin Recruiter? Crocodoc again. Reviewing an assignment on Edmodo? Crocodoc. Getting directions from Siri? Not Crocodoc. But you get the point.

<iframe src="http://box.crocodoc.com/documents-reimagined/" seamless allowfullscreen="true" webkitallowfullscreen="true"style="border:none; width:750px; height:440px;">

It’s rare that two companies have such remarkably similar visions, philosophies and cultures. From the beginning, Box’s mission has been to make it incredibly easy to share, access and collaborate on content from any device. Crocodoc’s magic makes that content beautiful and accessible, freeing users from their desktops. We knew we had to work with them. After about a dozen meetings, a McDonald’s lunch and a Pho dinner, we finally struck a deal to join forces and bring the best document experiences to the world.

Together, we’re setting out to improve every experience you have with documents on the internet. Remember how horrible watching videos with RealPlayer used to be? YouTube came along and fundamentally remade the online video experience. Similarly, Flickr, Facebook and others have made photos beautiful on any device. But documents have yet to tip for the web. They’re still clunky and awkward, often forcing users out of their browser and into a desktop application.

But content sits at the center of every business and nearly every business transaction. When you’re working on Box, you should have a remarkably beautiful, fast and seamless experience for viewing your documents. We’re going to deeply integrate Crocodoc’s HTML5 viewing technology into our core product, creating an all-new experience for the 15 million individuals and 150,000 businesses on Box.

And perhaps even more importantly, we’re going to extend that experience to all the other applications businesses use. Crocodoc’s technology will become a core part of our platform, powering content experiences for every application that touches content, including HR software, e-learning tools, document signing solutions and healthcare applications.

We’re building the enterprise platform that will power every content interaction for hundreds of thousands of businesses and developers. Storing files is only the beginning: creating amazing experiences around those files is where the magic is. All seven Crocodocers will be joining us to make this a reality across multiple areas of our business, with Ryan serving as Director of Platform.

Stay tuned as we reimagine documents on Box and applications everywhere.

Our customers have given us a deep understanding of how to create a wildly successful Box deployment. We measure user adoption, internal collaboration, mobility and customer engagement. Our goal is to help companies get the most out of Box and provide them with simple, elegant tools to keep them successful as they grow. Our customer success team and success.box.com is just one way we do this.

Today, I’m thrilled to announce another great tool to help admins cut through complexity and find opportunities to improve their use of Box. We’re expanding our partnership with GoodData and today they’re releasing GoodBox Bash, a cloud-based service that lets customers view and analyze key data about how their business is using Box. Available immediately from GoodData, GoodBox gives instant insights into the security of content stored in Box, how different teams adopt and collaborate in Box and where opportunities exist to do more with content.

The first thing that the GoodBox Bash gives businesses is truly customizable alerting and monitoring. No matter how big you are — if you have a few hundred employees or a few hundred thousand — it’s critical to get a view over all your critical corporate data. With GoodBox, you can watch Box activity and use the rich visualizations to spot identify any abnormal behavior. Whether you’re looking for suspicious download activity or want to track previews and shared links to specific document sets, GoodBox gives you better visibility and better control over your content.

We also want our customers to squeeze every bit of value they can out of Box. The second thing GoodBox exposes is how different teams in your organization are adopting, engaging with and collaborating in Box. Pay attention to how your top-performing teams use Box, identify best practices and great new use cases, and then spread that knowledge to other teams. You can even tie content and events to broader business metrics to see how your content is influencing revenue, close rates and cost management.

For more information, check out the details on GoodData’s page or contact your Box rep for a demo!

Guest post by Missy Krasner, Advisor, Healthcare Strategy, Box

You probably saw some of the headlines last week where Box announced that it is supporting HIPAA and HITECH compliance, signing Business Associate Agreements, (BAAs) and integrating with several platform app partners such as Doximity, drchrono, TigerText, and Medigram to help seed its new healthcare ecosystem. I also announced that I was formally advising Box on their healthcare strategy.

I was drawn to Box because of all the lessons I learned at Google building a consumer-directed, personal health record (PHR), Google Health. Google Health allowed you to securely store, organize and share all of your medical records online and control where your data went and how it was managed. It was unlike the other PHRs in the industry that were tethered to the provider or payor or part of an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.

Sound good? Well, it was in theory. The big issue with Google Health was aggregating your data from the disparate sources that stored data on you. We had to create a ton of point-to-point integrations with large health insurance companies, academic medical centers, hospitals, medical practices and retail pharmacy chains. All of these providers and payors were covered entities in the world of HIPAA and were required to verify a patient’s identity before releasing any data to them electronically. It was a very bumpy user experience for even the most super-charged, IT savvy consumer.

When Google Health was discontinued in January of 2012, I started using Box for my family’s medical record aggregation needs. That’s right, the queen of patient portals moved away from PHRs and started using a secure Box folder to organize copies of her family’s medical records. This included: scanned copies of paper files, Evidence of Benefit (EBO) statements, consult notes, and imaging studies (x-rays and MRIs from CDs that were burned for me at my Mom’s doctor’s office). I now give access to my health folder in Box to family members and other care providers as I deem fit. And because Box offers support for HIPAA compliance, I am even inviting office staff at my Mom’s doctors’ offices to access her medical records via Box.

The Future of Medical Record Aggregation in Healthcare

There is a great amount of work going on at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC/HHS) and in the private industry on interoperability, file transport and data exchange. But let’s be honest, we are not fully interoperable as an industry yet. And I can say this given I worked in the inaugural ONC office back in 2005 when it was first set up under Dr. David Brailer and the Bush Administration.

The Direct Project and the Blue Button initiative are very promising and so are HIE profiles, but the bottom line is this – Meaningful Use Stage 2 is coming in early 2014, and most EHR companies are scrambling to meet the new criteria around giving patients access to their medical data. In order to continue to get paid by the government, doctors using EHRs have to prove that 0patients can download, view and transmit their medical data. EHRs also have to demonstrate a low bar for data exchange.

So here is my hope for the future. If most EHRs can currently export a Continuity of Care Document (CCD) via the Clinical Document Architecture (CDA), why couldn’t Box grab that clinical care summary format and stylize it in a way that made sense to other doctors or patients via its documenting previewing technology? This would help the interoperability and file transfer juggernaut get a whole lot easier.

There is still a ton of work that needs to be done in this area, but it’s a good day when I can take my Mom to 3 doctor’s appointments in different community practices and every practice is on an EHR. It’s even more rewarding to see that 2 out of 3 doctor practices have patient portals connected to their EHRs. Now I just need a safe place to keep all of her medical content, as the onus is on me, the consumer, to extract data from each EHR solution and aggregate it into a format that makes sense to my family and my mother’s attending doctors.

And this is exactly why I got excited about the Box vision: to deliver simple, secure content sharing that users and IT love and adopt. Box doesn’t have all the answers yet, but by applying its elegant solution for file sharing and collaboration in the cloud to healthcare, it certainly can solve some of my own healthcare file sharing needs as well as the average patient’s needs.

I’ll be talking about Box for healthcare this coming Thursday on a webinar with the Al Adool, CIO of Garden City Hospital and also Shahid Shah ,“The Healthcare IT Guy”. I hope you’ll join us!

The consumerization of IT and evolution of the cloud are shaking up the healthcare industry. With four out of five doctors using mobile devices for work-related tasks, mHealth and BYOD are creating new challenges for CMIOs and CIOs at hospitals and large integrated delivery networks across the nation. And as if that weren’t enough, provider and patient frustrations continue to mount over the lack of interoperability and file sharing in healthcare.

Well hang tight! At Box, we’re shaking up healthcare, too – in all the right ways – helping providers, payers and patients address the major pain points in healthcare around the lack of interoperability and basic file sharing. Our secure cloud collaboration platform provides medical teams with anywhere access to health information, enables collaboration between physicians and nurses for improved care coordination, eliminates paper workflows, and optimizes IT investments in applications, infrastructure and maintenance.

Building on our industry momentum, today we announced that Box supports HIPAA/HITECH compliance – post the omnibus ruling – and that we’re signing Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) with healthcare customers. This is significant, as it means that unlike consumer cloud applications, Box is a trusted healthcare partner for personal health information (PHI) such as medical records, images, lab reports and so on.

As part of our strategy to help tackle challenges around care coordination, clinical documentation and basic interoperability, we added 10 new healthcare application partners: Doximity, drchrono, HealthTap, iPaxera, MediCopy, iMedViewer, Medigram, PostureScreen Mobile, TigerText and Umbie Dental Care.

With the TigerText partnership, clients can securely and easily share patient info such as images, reports, lab reports, and any documents stored in Box to help coordinate care delivery. This collaboration addresses the BYOD and texting problems plaguing hospitals, while also improving patient care and hospital efficiency.

In addition, we announced a seed investment in drchrono, the first EHR company that we are working with in order to help physicians access images, lab reports and more from Box.

Finally, we announced a special offer with Doximity, the nation’s largest professional network for doctors. With Doximity, physicians can use their iPhone or Android device or desktop computer to quickly and securely connect with nearly any US physician to collaborate on patient care or find the right medical expert on a topic. Until the end of the year, Doximity’s 150,000+ members can get a free Box account with 50GB storage.

Hundreds of healthcare customers are already using Box, including Beaumont and Henry Ford Health Systems, Garden City Hospital, HealthTrust Europe, Johns Hopkins HealthCare Solutions and San Juan Regional Medical Center, just to name a few. Their use cases are powerful and varied – from medical teams being able to securely access PHI to health systems, payors, patients and third parties sharing files to better coordinate care.

Al Fadool, the CIO of Garden City Hospital, will be sharing his thoughts on the secure cloud for healthcare during a webinar at 10am PT on May 2. We’ll be joined by industry expert, Shahid Shah, A.K.A. “The Healthcare IT Guy” and Missy Krasner, former founding member of Google Health and Executive in Residence (EIR) at Morgenthaler Ventures. I’m excited to share that Missy’s working with Box as a strategic advisor for healthcare. Please join our conversation by registering here.
