Gartner Names Box a Leader in Enterprise File Synchronization and Sharing

By

We are thrilled to be recognized as a Leader in Gartner’s new “Magic Quadrant for Enterprise File Synchronization and Sharing.” We believe it’s the marriage of end-user design and elegance with the security, controls and scalability that allows us to achieve such high praise from our enterprise customers and the broader industry. Get the report here.

Gartner EFSS MQ 2014

According to Gartner’s report, “organizations investing in EFSS capabilities will gain a modern and collaborative real-time workplace. This will help them reduce or avoid the inherent security/compliance threats of storing enterprise data unmanaged on personal cloud services and mobile devices. The business benefits are increased productivity, cost savings and data protection.”

Gartner adds that “even when organizations are looking for something simple, their needs often quickly develop into more demanding requirements.” Hence, when choosing the right solution for your organization, Gartner encourages “the right approach [that] entails understanding user segmentation, acceptable use cases and policies, and identifying which tools or capabilities will augment investments (e.g., in MDM). The ideal outcome provides enhanced collaboration and a great user experience while enabling IT to contain risks and costs.”

Box has a proven track record with enterprises looking to solve the near-term consumer file sharing challenges while helping them to incorporate cloud content into their architecture. This recognition from the analyst community reflects our continued success in the market. In 2013, Box received the highest rating possible of “Strong Positive” in Gartner “MarketScope for Enterprise File Synchronization and Sharing” and was positioned as a Leader in the “The Forrester Wave™: File Sync and Share Platforms, Q3 2013.” Box was also named the only “Champion” in the Info-Tech report, “Vendor Landscape: Cloud File Sharing.”

2014 has been busy year for Box as we continue to build products and enhance our platform to redefine how we work. Just this year, we’ve launched the Policies and Automation for lightweight rules and process automation, and real time team collaborative note taking with Box Notes on the web and mobile. We also made available Metadata, the ability to store custom values for additional context, and Box View, our best-in-class content rendering engine that converts any documents into HTML5, through the API for developers to build simply awesome applications that work across platforms.

We continue to see momentum and acceleration of cloud adoption from CIOs of large and heavily regulated enterprises. In a 2013 Gartner survey, “55% of CIOs indicated they would source all their critical apps in the cloud by 2020.” As a result of the convergence of Social, Mobile, Cloud, and Information that Gartner calls “Nexus of Forces,” we have been very successful in signing major new customer across a variety of industries this year, including: GE, World Bank Group, Sony Music, Netflix, Hamburg Airport Group, DeNA and Anglo American.
