Architecture, Engineering and Construction Firms Move to the Cloud

By

If you’ve ever stood on a steel beam high above a project site, needed to check your blueprints and wondered if there was a better, faster way to access them instead of heading back to the trailer, you aren’t alone—and there is.

Today, Box announced 2X growth in year-over-year sales in the architecture, engineering services and construction (AEC) industry. Companies like Atkins, Braemore Properties, CORE Construction, C.W. Driver, Dunn Building Company, Intergraph, Layton Construction, Lennar Corporation, Mercury Engineering, The Weitz Company and Webcor Builders have joined our growing roster of AEC customers.

Box gives them a simple, powerful way to centralize content, revisions and comments, and make that information available anywhere, anytime—using any mobile device. No more shimmying down a steel beam back to the trailer.

We also offer several key partner applications that make it easier for construction professionals to deliver projects on time and on budget, despite limited manpower, accelerated schedules, and limited or conflicting information.

The first application is from Gehry Technologies, the innovative technology development and consulting company connected to renowned architect Frank Gehry. Gehry Technologies is partnering with Box to make information-rich BIM 3D models available to everyone on a project—from the owner to subcontractors—via their AEC Toolkit. Users can now see a high level of detail within the BIM 3D models, allowing them to provide feedback and make informed decisions, regardless of platform or BIM 3D authoring tool, and without any software required.

Today we also unveiled a group of preferred Box OneCloud apps for AEC, which enables more accurate and efficient workflows. The Box OneCloud apps that are used the most by AEC firms are:

  • AutoCAD WS for viewing, editing and sharing AutoCAD® drawings with anyone, anywhere using a mobile device
  • FotoIn for embedding comments and information from the field straight into photos
  • PlanGridfor easily managing blueprints on an iPad
  • Procore for a centralized project portal to track and manage construction project information
  • PunchList for creating a report of issues or discussion items for any project

If you’re an AEC professional and want to hear more, I’ll be discussing detailed use cases for the AEC industry next month during a Box webinar featuring partners and customers. You can register here.
