Boxers: Team Players in the Office and on the Field

By

One of the things I love about Box is how diverse our team is. Everyone here brings something spicy to the table, and that’s not just because of our varied professional experience – we like to share our hobbies, too, which include singing, break-dancing, baton-twirling (seriously) and definitely sports! I LOVE soccer, and was thrilled when I saw some of the other Boxers kicking a ball around the office.

The Box soccer team was largely inspired by the 2010 World Cup fervor. During that entire summer we’d run up Sherman Ave after work (we were still at the old office) to play pick-up games on the sunny El Camino turf fields. Typical of a group of young, entrepreneurial thinkers, we decided to start our own team, and the team is a great example of how Boxers are people who like to come together and thrive in competitive situations.

We’ve competed in an indoor league every Thursday night for the past 6 months, which has provided our team members with cross-departmental camaraderie and a great workout. I’m really proud of everyone, especially since we recently won a league title by defeating another tech company by 18 goals.

Soccer’s a global sport, so it’s fitting that we have players from almost every Box department, like engineering, recruiting, sales, and support, just to name a few.

Here’s what fellow Boxers had to say about the team:

Ben VanEvery, engineering: “It’s great to be able to play with people from different departments. We go out and we go out with heart to fight for the same goals together.”

Harry Dannenbaum, recruiting: “Coming from England, I look forward to it every week!”

Box is all about employees bringing their personalities to the workplace, and while we don’t have a soccer field in the office (not yet, at least), it’s great that I can round up other Boxers to participate in a sport we all enjoy. And it certainly doesn’t hurt that we’re a great and good-looking team, both on and off the field.
