Bye Bye .Net

By , Social Media Manager

When Box founders Aaron Levie and Dylan Smith started the company in 2005, Box.net was a consumer solution with a long way to go. Fast forward six plus years, and we’re a much different company today. As we developed and changed focus to the business and enterprise market, it became clear that the company needed a trusted, enterprise-worthy domain that aligns with the product that we’ve built. That’s why today we’re excited to announce that Box is moving from Box.net to Box.com!

Starting very soon, you’ll be automatically taken to the new domain (www.box.com) when signing into your Box account. Only the URL is changing – you’ll still have access all your important files and folders with no interruption to your workflow.

We’re happy to leave the .net behind and move on to the bigger and better Box, and are glad you’re a part of our success. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns about the move.

Can I get a new shirt to reflect the change? ;)

The change had put y’all on our blocked domains list at work, FYI. We use OpenDNS and had to manually unblock Box.

Hey all,

If you’re having login problems, please check with your admin to see if our new domain (box.com) has been whitelisted. If you still can’t login, please shoot me an email at mark@box.net. Apologies for the trouble!

Congratulations. How about more a small reward to people who’ve been with you right from the start? And would like more preview options for video files

Why to change a domain after so many years? Did you think about thousands of enterprise firewalls, ACLs, allowed hosts and so many problems with them?

So if my shared URL was http://www.box.net/s/n6mcfqivlx7n9bsy9ty9 earlier, do I have to change it to http://www.box.com/s/n6mcfqivlx7n9bsy9ty9 if I have used the former one on some of my web pages? As of now it is redirecting. But for how long will the redirection work?
