More Easy Ways to Share: Introducing SimpleShare

By , Title

Our team is always looking for new ways to make your life easier, and part of that is giving you a simple way to connect your desktop to the cloud. If you routinely need to share screenshots or screencasts, we have a new app that you’re going to find very useful.

Today, the Box team is happy to introduce our newest desktop application, SimpleShare. Instead of taking a screenshot, saving it to your desktop, then uploading it to Box, SimpleShare allows you to draw a region and instantly get a shared link to the image. Even better, you can also use the app to record and share screencasts – since the app records your screencast in flash, anyone who receives the link can instantly view it in the Box file previewer. You can even drag files from your desktop to the SimpleShare icon to instantly send them to Box. To use SimpleShare you simply:

  1. Take a screenshot, screencast or drag a file to the SimpleShare icon
  2. Wait for the check to appear over the SimpleShare icon
  3. Paste the link anywhere you want to share it!

SimpleShare is available immediately for both Mac and PC. Download the app at Box.net/simpleshare and start sharing today!

      Hey Jesus,

We don’t currently have an FTP upload option for Box. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Nice, I hope the mac desktop sync app follows real quick now as well…

Dragging and dropping a file on the icon does not work (upload) on Windows. Please don’t say it’s a mac-only feature. FluffyApp that uploads to CloudApp has this feature working on Windows.

Will you develop “SimpleShare” for Linux? Or maybe Box.Net has other application like this which can be running on Linux OS and which is so pretty good as “SimpleShare”?

    • Mark Saldana

      Hi f0t0n,

Currently, there are no plans to release a Linux version of SimpleShare. We’ll let you know if that changes in the future.

It runs on the latest Wine! I did not try on other versions.

fyi, for whatever reason, running Simpleshare disables the Esc key on my Macbook Pro on OS X 10.6.7. was a real pain trying to find the culprit, but it’s definitely Simpleshare.

      Hey Rich,

Thanks for letting us know. I’ll let our support team know about this bug so we can fix it asap.

Simpleshare on my Mac keeps telling me that I have an invalid username or password, but I was able to successfully login with the same credentials in Safari and on the app for my iPhone. The version says 2.7 and I downloaded it from the App Store.

I dont see my simpleshare folder in my account, and the uploads dont work…

When i use the region capture on my windows 7 computer, the region is _way_ off where I’m trying to draw. I use three monitors, and it always seems to start capturing on the wrong monitor.

    • Shanti Gilbert

I have the EXACT same problem, but it does capture the correct monitor, just the region is displaying while capturing is WAY off

  • Jpsalvadori

And how do you do if you only have Mac OS Leopard and no App. Store; Is there an alternative download link; It would be useful !

When I take a screen capture on my mac, the file does not automatically upload to Simpleshare folder. I do a capture video or drag a file to the icon, it uploads – just not screen captures.

  • Philatley

Why is the upload folder automatically zipped in simpleshare upload? Mac OSX 10.6.8

  • Akshay Nutbursing

i cant start the app it says QtWebKit64.dll is missing
I tried to reinstall, re download but nothing worked
    Ive Win7 64bit

    Thanks
    Akshay

    • Bruno Garcia

damn, same problem, same OS. Are we the only ones to have tried this unde W64?

      • Shanti Gilbert

I am using it without a problem on W7 64bit

  • Shanti Gilbert

I would love a way to save the screenshot as jpg, not just png, 2+ mb for just a quick screenshot is just to big, I reduce them to jpg and save at least 80~90% in size, but then I loose the practical way of uploading. please add this feature!

and a multiple monitor fix would be awesome :)

+1 on the multiple monitor fix being needed.

  • fuyu

My Simpleshare can’t login. The same e-mail and password can login from page but Simpleshare can’t.

  • Zapallo

    Grat an nice!

Any news on the multiple monitor bug? This would be a cool feature, but it doesn’t work at all on my dual monitor setup.
