The Startup Bus: Delivering Innovation at 60mph

By

Imposing an artificial deadline is a great way to quickly develop new, innovative ideas in a very short period of time. We know this all-too well, as Boxers regularly subject themselves to grueling all-night hackathons to develop badass new features for Box. We’ve found that hackathons are a really great way to innovate quickly, which is why we’re so interested in the Startup Bus. Participants (known as busprenuers) will be hopping on buses from all over the country to head to the South by Southwest conference in Austin, Texas. However, these aren’t your typical tour buses – busprenuers will spend the entire bus-ride (48 hours, give or take a few) designing, building and launching their own startups! Multiple teams will be building an entire product from scratch in just two days, with only their teammates and the road by their side.

In addition to just being really cool, we think these kinds of hackathons are a really great way to keep innovation alive in the next generation of startup founders. Companies now and in the future will rely on multiple applications – not just one – to run their businesses, and these buspresnuers may just create the next cloud application that integrates with Box ;). Our team is really excited to see what they can build in the next 48 hours.

If you’re heading to South by Southwest, be on the lookout for this group of innovators. They’ll be presenting their finished projects on the conference floor, and some may even be using Box to present from their iPads and Android Tablets. The buses are on the road today, and you can track them directly (with a cool map and everything) online. You can also keep tabs on the teams on Twitter @thestartupbus or with the hashtag #startupbus. We wish the Startup Bus crew a safe (and productive) ride to South by Southwest!
