We’re Up… with Some “Bugs

By , co-founder and CEO

Migration was a success. If you login to your account you will notice a few minor issues that we will have taken care of by the weekend (or so). Firstly, you will notice that there are no thumbnail images, and file is represented by a document icon. This is just a temporary issue and we should have all thumbnails and file-specific icons working for old files shortly. If you upload a new file (whether it be photo or powerpoint) the icon will be the appropriate one.

Also, if you have been using our direct linking feature, it is currently disabled. Sorry for the inconvenience, but we needed to sort a few things out before having this added traffic and bandwidth on our hands. This should be working by the end of the weekend as well. Those are the two main issues that we’re dealing with now. There is a “submit bug” button in the options menu in your account now. Please use this whenever you feel something is wrong with the site. If you have an account specific problem, simply email support@box.net.

Thanks for your patience, it is much appreciated.

The new site looks great. When do you plan on adding webdav support or some mechanism by which i can make box.net appear inside windos explorer?

  • Aaron

This should be incorporated in April. We have so much on our plate right now. The good news is we will release our desktop sync application next week. take a look at our features page for more information on this software.

what happened to the players, the MP3 player and the video player?

will they again be part of the share file screen?

Will you have the option to password protect direct links again? I really liked that feature. But other then that, the new layout looks awesome!

Hello from DriveHQ! A competitor that respects your aspiration and service.

Congratulations! The new site looks great, with an impressive list of new features!

Thank you for your service for the sector. We applaud your efforts and focus on customers and their needs. It is unfortunate to see that over the years, the name of “online storage” has been polluted by some that are not up to customers’ demand for quality and usability. It now takes new service providers twice the efforts to convince customers and restore their confidence. it’s way overdue, and Box.net is absolutely a nice breeze of fresh air for the sector.

Online storage will be there. Box.net will be there. Keep it up, guys.

    hey guys,

Great job – Like the new look and the features.

    just a quick question.

If I add a new users with thei specific folders can they :
1/ make thei own sub folders ?
2/ use the new desktop sync, even if they are subusers ? (will it go directly to the folder I gave them ?)

    Hey sebastian,

    1. depending on the read/write/full access you give the user they may or may not be able to create new folders.

    2. we’re trying to get the desktop sync application working for sub users yet. our beta version doesn’t.

  • Sebastien

    Thanks Aaron,

    can’t wait t use it!

Anther question – Out of the desktop sync, will it send the files in the root folder, or it will be posible tosend in a particular place ?
(But I am guessing that it is the issue with the sub-users!).

Well, just waiting to try it out.

    thanks guys

    Sebastien
